[xubuntu-users] Partial upgrade?

I honestly have never used the update manager ... i've been doing my package
management from the command line for the better part of a decade and old
habits are tough to break, but I assume that means there is a kernel upgrade
along with some package upgrades and it is asking if you would like to do
the package upgrades without doing the kernel upgrade same as when you do
"sudo aptitude upgrade" it will inform you (if there is a kernel update)
that the kernel package and related packages are "being kept back" but it
will still allow to upgrade of other packages where as when you do "sudo
aptitude dist-upgrade" it will pull the new kernel image along with all
other package updates...

I could how ever be completely wrong about this, but in my mind that is what
I assume the update manager to be referring to.
