Starting helping the project by developing.

Hello guys,

I'm here because i would like to start contributing to the project by
developing needed functionalies or working on improving existing one. So,
first of all, is the xubuntu source-code really open? i mean, can i read
every piece of the source code and then compile it and build a full
installation? Where can i get the full source-code?  I know those questions
sounds a little bit newbie, but i'm a newbie on developing Open Source
Operational Systems, although i think it's not a problem at all. I'm
migrating all my systems from Windows to Linux and i think the best way to
get fully excited is supporting some Open Source OS. I hope my skills can
be useful.
