Thank you for all this work.
There is an application available that could replaces "-places-plugin"
called, appropriately enough, Thunar File Manager. Adding this to the
panel as a launcher allows access directly to thunar, with shortcuts on
the left. It doesn't allow complete functionality of Places, but it
works quite well.
Python still has the daily images broken for us, as of 2010-12-12.
Alternate images have been building, but even Ubuntu Desktop images are
on hold for python 2.7. Even though the alternate images are building,
they fail to install for Python 2.7 errors.
