Where are you from?
Ask someone near you to write you Xubuntu alternate CD and Ubuntu DVD
(to minimize your download of additional packages)
10 KB/sec is reely not that bad. And 2 days are reasonable time
regarding you get whole OS together with bunch of applications.
(Providing that you are not paying your internet by amount of data..)
In those days I were using Xubuntu on my old faithfull Pentium III,
I used to download 6.10 release CD with modem over telephone lines.
And that is 5KB/s and you are complaining about doubled that speed? :)
The best think you can do is to Connect with people in your nearest Loco
(Local Ubuntu community). Or to contact any neighbor of yours
or any other Linux user of some other distribution and their Loco,
to write CDs and one DVD for you.
I myself was downloading 4 DVD-s from internet of Debian release
and sending them by bus or post office to other users, so everything is
feasible if you want.
Ask people :)
