Epiphany *with* its gnome dependencies was lighter than Firefox.
This was in Dapper though, so Firefox could have improved in
the meanwhile.  I don't see how it could better though, Epiphany
is anyway going to share more code with XFCE desktop than
Firefox.

Note though that all this pales in comparison to your browser backlink cache
settings, whether you've enabled have JavaScript and/or Flash and if yes,
what kind of www-sites you visit.
