thunar dead-slow?

Folks;

though overally really enjoy working with the Thunar file manager, it
seems from time to time it is just astoundingly slow, making me

- wait for 15 .. 30 seconds in order to display the content of my $HOME
as soon as I opened it,

- wait for up to half a minute as well until double-clicking $HOME on
my desktop actually does display something,

- taking too long as well (5 .. 10 seconds) for a window to close when
clicking the top-right "X".

Not sure whether this is an issue to be somehow reproducable;
nevertheless: Ideas, anyone? I am on 8.04 btw.
