.ICEauthority issue

hi list..
since today if I want to login I have to login first in the failsafe mode,
and change /home/username/.ICEauthority owner from root:root to
username:username.
if i doesn't do that first, after hitting login the system gets back to the
login screen and asks me for the password again. any clue?
