Grub 1.97 beta3, long delay on booting:

Description:-
Dual booting two Maxtor 80GB SATA drives.
GRUB 2 is installed to the MBR of sda, and sda is the second BIOS boot drive after CDRW drive.
(Making it the first BIOS boot drive makes no difference).
Kubuntu 9.04 64-bit is installed on dev/sda - sda1 /home ; sda5 swap ; sda6 root  
Kubuntu 9.10 64-bit is installed on dev/sdb - sdb1 root ; sdb5 swap ; sdb6 /home

The delay between the end of POST & the boot menu appearing, is about 40 seconds.
The is a lot of hard disk activity going on during this time.
