Thank you for reporting this bug and helping making Ubuntu better. I
have a few questions for you regarding this bug.
1. Is this still an issue in Jaunty? (the latest alpha LiveCD can be downloaded from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/)
2. What do you mean when you say you have to "rebuild xserve" in order to get back where you started?
3. When the white with the random blue lines appear, how is the responsiveness of the computer? More specifically, (i) does CapsLock turn on and off the correspondig light? (ii) Does anything happen when you press Ctrl+Alt+F2? (iii) Are you able to SSH into the computer from another computer (if you have a network and another computer available)?
4. By configuring Ubuntu to use both monitors, what tool do you use? Did you configure them to be displayed side-by-side or in cloned mode?
5. When you reported this bug (using the apport tool), what was the state of the system? Did you make any more changes to be able to report the bug (since it wouldn't have been possible from the white screen, and the logs seem to indicate that both monitors are connected)?
