With openmpi (package version 1.3-2ubuntu1) and Jaunty RC, when running mpiexec on a local host a password is requested. This bug has been reported on the openmpi mailing list. See report and resolution here:

I am using openmpi 1.3.2rc1 which has the patch applied and it works as
expected.
