Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: mythtv-database
The package mythtv-database-0.21.0+fixes19961-0ubuntu8 breaks on upgrade
from intrepid to jaunty when only the mythtv-frontend is used. I.e the
machine is only a mythtv frontend and connects to a backend server.
Upgrading system when backend is not available (ie doing jaunty upgrade
at work on laptop when mythbackend server is on home lan) hangs the
upgrade completely and eventually crashes out failing the upgrade to
jaunty. Running dpkg-reconfigure -a also results in a hang.
Running ps aux at commandline we see a mysql --host=<remote_host>
--user=root --password process running which will not resolve to the
remote mysql database.
The package should either ask if the machine is frontend only and not
try to connect remote server or try a couple of times to connect to
backend server and gracefully notify user that it could not connect.
Not sure what a frontend only machine needs the mythtv-database for but
it shouldn't really be modifying the database backend on a remote server
if that is indeed what it is doing.
