Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: twinkle

Twinkle can be used to create fully media endpoint secure VoIP telephone
calls using a GNU GPL implementation of Phil Zimmermanns ZRTP protocol.
This package is used as a foundation for secure communication
infrastructure in a number of institutions worldwide (along with GNU SIP
Witch). However, the current version of Twinkle distributed in both
recent Debian and Ubuntu releases is currently broken for ZRTP support,
in that it is both incompatible with the current ZRTP specification, and
also crashes when ZRTP is used. This requires a newer versions of both
Twinkle (current is now 1.4.x) and of the GNU ZRTP Stack (libcppzrtp
1.4.x) to be distributed, along with commoncpp 1.7.x and ccrtp 1.7.x
(Ubuntu currently includes version 1.6 of these).

I have created preliminary updated packages for Twinkle and libcppzrtp,
and also packages for current GNU Common C++ and GNU ccrtp, but these
are actually done as new packages rather than based on the previous
ones. However, the changes needed probably are just to use of correct
upstream version.

Since this effects multiple packages, but are all interrelated around
one core issue, I choose to submit it as a single "needs-update" bug
report (and maybe this should be pushed back to Debian where the problem
with bad versions of these packages started). I also could split this up
into separate needs-update reports for each individual package if so
desired.

In any case, reference packages with current versions of twinkle, zrtp,
ccrtp, and commoncpp2 for hardy, intrepid, and jaunty can be found in
the GNU Telephony team ppa area, and I could submit these through revu
for 9.10 in a few weeks if also desired
(https://launchpad.net/~gnutelephony/+archive/ppa).
