You will need to switch from the OpenGL backend to the XRender backend -
KWin might call them "Renderers".  You should be able to do this from
System Settings, possibly in the Advanced tab.

Since nouveau doesn't provide any 3d support yet, the OpenGL backend
won't work.  The 2d acceleration is quite good, however, so the XRender
backend should be fast for you.
