The corrupted archive might come from a broken drive, faulty memory or
network failure during transfer.
Your drive looks good since you're running Fedora without a glitch. If
Ubuntu is running on another partition you can check it with fsck.
Check your memory with the memtest86+ boot menu.
If your network hardware looks good then check the configuration. Once you're back to Ubuntu could you check if one of the following helps:
1) remove the option interface-mtu in /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
2) lower the mtu : sudo ifconfig eth0 mtu 1000
Could you also provide the output of the following command in fedora:
ifconfig
