I am connecting directly from a ADSL router, which has been replaced since I first posted this bug. I have discarded the router as the source of the problem because the same thing happens connecting from a different place.
Right now I am using Fedora 10 (temporarily, I am still a Ubuntu fan) and I am not having trouble updating.
