Hi,
I have exactly the same issue in 8.10. I also had it in 8.04. The problem comes when you do many things on start-up and it takes too long for the i8kmon window to appear so gnome-swallower does not find it. It then asks it you wish to reload which then works fine but leaves the original application running. The simplest solution is the one presented, increase the time out from 10 to say 30 seconds. Other solutions would be to make the timeout an option in the applet. Finally it could continue to poll for the window while the Reload confirmation window is being shown and if the application windows appears while the reload dialog is shown then automatically close it. Alternatively, it the user presses reload, first check it the window is there before rerunning the application.
