I think I gave wrong information. I had a look at the installed Audacity
and it seems that I downloaded it from

http://packman.links2linux.org

They offer Version 1.3 beta there. The version I downloaded there works
with GTK2.

I cannot give you some patches but what about including Audacity 1.3 in
Dapper - even it's beta it should be stable enough!?

Or as a workaround improve the look of old GTK1 applications so that
they don't look as ugly as they did with older Ubuntu versions.
