Ubuntu server and mysql

Hi guys,

This isn't strictly Ubuntu-related, but since we're planning to
implement it on Ubuntu servers I thought I would ask anyway. :)

Does anyone know anything about implementing semi-synchronous mysql
database replication between a master and slave?

As I understand it, this would mean that the master would wait for
confirmation from at least one slave that a transaction has been
successfully replicated before telling the client that the change has
been committed. With asynchronous replication there would be a chance of
losing transactions if the master crashes before the slave has
replicated those transactions and semi-synchronous replication would go
a long way to solving this.

I know a couple of guys at Google came up with a patch to allow this
functionality, but I haven't been able to find out if it has since been
built into later mysql releases. I also haven't been able to find a
"howto" that shows exactly how to implement this. Would appreciate any
input from someone who knows more about mysql. My knowledge on the
subject is pretty limited at this point.

Cheers,
Neil
