When Thunderbird tries to send email it goes through three steps you

- connecting to server
- connected to server
- sending email

Awesome idea. I'll see if I can catch it next time. Although, the
Wireshark filters should negate the need to stop all other programs.

Interesting idea. I'll try that, it should be a static server after
all. Didn't you mean "Thunderbird"?
