So you've tried Edit > Preferences > Composition ?
Then in the HTML section, changed Size from default of medium to large,
x-large or even xx-large?
Works for me.
Do note though that it only takes effect in new emails that you start
after changing the setting. Previous emails (eg in Drafts) will still
use the previous size in effect when they were created.
