[ubuntu-za] What to install on an oldish HP Pavillion dv6500 Notebook

Hi - I'm considering installing Ubuntu on this HP Pavillion - rather than
the Vista which is on it now.
Can someone please advise me which Ubuntu version might be best suited -
Ideally one that is 100% compatible with handling input and output to
Windows formats.
