Hi All,

After the IRC on 24 March 2015, here is the info on "Documentation User Group"

Note, this is my thoughts, not what is final

The Documentation User Group will be created to help alleviate the lack of documentation in the FLOSS world.

The documents will initially be based on Ubuntu 14.04. We will concentrate on LTS versions, as we will only have to update the docs every 2 years.

This project will be started due to the lack of documentation for certification ( ECDL/ICDL ), and the school curriculum in South African Schools, using FLOSS apps/tools, then we can concentrate on other software for documentation.

We will need to get teachers involved with the manuals for schools.

NB!!, Flossmanuals already has some manuals (http://en.flossmanuals.net/), but not what I am proposing here.

Siyavula has some manuals for schools (http://www.siyavula.com/)

We must use FLOSS apps/tools to create the manuals.

Web based Manual creation Software (so we can all create the manual at the same time):

        Mediawiki: http://www.mediawiki.org

        Pubsweet: https://github.com/BookSprints/PubSweet

        Booktype: https://github.com/sourcefabric/Booktype

We will need to evaluate the web based Manual creation Software, so that we can decide which to use.

I have not been successful in installing Pubsweet or booktype ( I wanted to install them locally, not on the web )

ECDL/ICDL: http://ecdl.org/

I think that we sould start off with EqualSkills, as the Syllabus is small
        http://www.ecdl.org/programmes/index.jsp?p=115&n=156
        http://www.ecdl.org/programmes/media/EqualSkills_Syllabus_Version_2.01.pdf

EqualSkills can be used as our training exercise

I hope we can succeed with this project
William
