[ubuntu-za] Spontaneous Logout in 14.04

Kill -1 -9 kills all the processes associated with the user issuing the
command. It also causes your session to log out (because nothing is
running under the session any-more).
I thought maybe some process gives the same command when it finishes.
Try creating a new User and see if it still does the same when you are
logged in as that user.
