I apologise for not responding to you sooner. but I see people have
been having problems under by "14.04 disk is full problems."

 i saw an earlier reply, The command line...

I actually noticed on an ubuntu users machine recently, as well
evertime he opens the software & update center, the system hangs.

Maybe try using the synaptic update center.

I will revert to you with a more appropriate answer in due course
