[ubuntu-za] SOLVED - Thanx -( Update STILL broken - any ideas? 23 jan)

It solved and Im writing this from the previously broken system
After running sudo dpkg --configure -a (thanx Rober Holm)
and Christiaans stuff (the clean all -f install and upgrade stuff)
the problem seemed to be a language pack - gnome-en issue
once that was corrected by -f install and upgrade, I was back in business
