Hi Robin,

Unless you want to keep your previous settings (12.10), I would:

 1. Do (another) fresh install of 13.04
 2. Mount the backup home folder
 3. Copy the required folders & files from the /home_old to /home_new.
 4. Unmount the backup home folder
 5. Done


This should save both time and lots of coffee :)
