But the problems are much reduced. You can wall the vm off from the
internet so malware/virus attacks can be reduced - or you can switch on the
internet when needed and then keep it off when not needed.

You can have a very basic install of windows with just the packages you
need. Also you can take a back up and if something goes wrong a simple
restore will have you back to operating in minutes - this has worked very
well for me.

I do agree it would be nice if that software ran natively on linux

I regulaly re-installed windows on my work machines, but since using Linux
and windows VMs I have not had reinstall either OS! SO your problems will
still be reduced. (I have VMs for my POS software and Pastel)
