[ubuntu-za] my Ubuntu Calistoga does not download applications anymore

Hi there

This happened after an upgrade broke my ubuntu

For a few weeks my Ubuntu Calistoga does not download applications when 
I use
Ubuntu Software Centre

The only way I can install new apps  is to do
sudo apt-get install

I looked in the term log and

sudo less /var/log/apt/term.log
I found
Log ended: 2012-02-03  12:48:50 (a few weeks ago)

Even though I tried to dowload install an app
It freezes

I also have the same problems when I try to run Updates it freezes

An I looking at the right log as I dont see errors

please advise
