Subject: [ubuntu-za] Library web app & photo collage app
Hi
My wife has asked me to setup a web-based library site for her book
club as the spreadsheet is becoming too cumbersome. I have found a
number on SF.net and FreshMeat but would some community input and
hopefully save myself days of frustration trying one after the other
till she is happy.
Essentially what she wants :
* Web front end that a basic PC user can use as they are mostly
retired ladies with a sprinkling of younger blood
* Decent search function
eg search by : Title -or- Author -or- Recently added -or-
Owned/bought/added by whom -or- books loaned out to whom for how long
etc
* Report function to print a list of all the books in the club by
auther and also by title. Export to CSV and Formatted PDF would be
great!
* A real bonus would either built-in or standalone partner site (using
the same database) for smart phone support. The young blood asked for
this :)
What it needs to record :
* Author
* Title
* ISBN (not essential but makes sense)
* Publisher (not essential but makes sense)
* Who bought the book for the club (if anyone leaves the club they are
permitted to take their books if they want)
* Record of who has read the book with space for comments (comments
optional but nice to have)
* Rating system would be awesome (my idea)
* Who currently has the book and when did they take it out of the club library
* Flag for if the book is part of a set with the name of the series
(not essential but makes sense)
My Requirements
* PhP5
* MySQL
* Will be setup on my Ubuntu server in the wild
Any suggestions to help me narrow down the list to test?
I am also looking for an application that can make a photo collage out
of hundreds/thousands of source images/photo's?
I have seen a few examples but am struggling to find an app (that does
not cost an arm & a leg) that does it. Essentially what it does, is
you give it a photo or image that you want to create a collage of and
a directory/source of hundreds or even thousands of other photo's or
images and it then uses these source images to create a collage that
looks like the image you gave it but on closer inspection you can see
it is made up of hundreds of smaller photos.
I am wanting to do this as a gift for my mother's 60th in May using
all the family photo's I can lay our grubby mittens on.
Any help would be appreciate!
PS : I have a friend in Cape Town looking for Java Developers in Cape
Town; drop me a direct mail and I'll pass on his details if you know
anyone interested.
Thank you !
