My cents worth...

I've recently found that fax machines have a tendency to "seriously
interfere" with ADSL, even with a micro filter in place.  As soon as you
receive a fax you get significant packet loss, even to the extent of
loosing your Internet connection.  Billion routers especially seems to
be sensitive to this.

As a rule of thumb, I would not use a fax machine on an ADSL line.
