Hi group,

As a newbie, I will be asking more questions than providing answers to
this list.Bear with me, eventually I'll know enough to give back.

Does anybody know of a package that can rip the soundtrack from a music dvd?

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-rip-dvd-audio-to-mp3-or-ogg.html

and get xchat or another irc client and use freenode and go to
#ubuntu-za if you want help a bit quicker
