Thanks Frans. All sorted and running well. Now I have to get the webcam
running on Skype but that's another challenge. We will get there
eventually.

I had to use the wireless drivers that I compile myself for my net-book
too(for the eth port), you should at least make sure you get the complete
package and be patient, try not to get the packages customized to a specific
kernel those are just plain confusing :).
A kernel upgrade fix this for me and when I installed 11.04 even my
Bluetooth v3.0 connection worked, no fiddling needed :)
Sure there are other "older" hardware that's not supported any more but I'm
not using it on any of my systems yet so no problem.
When relatively new hardware stops working it gets to be a problem though.
