Just more suited to for people. Example: Evolution has better Nautilus
integration, but I find Thunderbird's RSS feed support and control
over outgoing mail formats very useful.

If you setup an IMAP mail account, then all your email will appear as
it is on the server, ie you won't miss anything. I suggest setup as
IMAP if you can, just migrate your address book over.

You can setup Thunderbird before removing Evolution, see if everything
works like you want it first. Maybe try it for a week, see how it
goes. That's how I moved across.

As a bonus, the Lightning +" Provider for Google Calendar" Addons
integrate  calendar functionality, there are others too.
