[ubuntu-za] Vodacom KB3770 Issues

Does anyone have the definitive method to set this device up to work with "Natty? I seem to remember a recent conversation about it but didn't follow as I don't have the device (this query is for a friend).
Googling produces some open-ended advice using betavine, but I was hoping to get a short & sweet answer here.
