Hi Jan, 

On your rebooting problem. Are you using OpenOffice or LibreOffice with
the panel QuickStarter? I've found that this quickstarter causes this
inability to reboot. The good news is that you have 2 choices: Either
don't use the quickstarter, or exit it before rebooting.
