Firstly thanks to everybody that responded to the email.
Seems to me that there are 2 major players, Koha and Evergreen. Both were
originally developed for debian.
I found this ppt file that compares Koha, Evergreen and Voyager
http://valenews.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/opacs.ppt
With the ppt, installation process and paid support in mind,
the decision was to go with Koha. I have made contact with
Sabinet.co.za but they need more detail of the current setup to give
me a quotation.
So that will have to wait until after the school holiday.
Would be nice to have support if it is not to expensive.
Koha:
The install documentation on the website www.koha.org and the README file
was really confusing.
I did find this guide and got Koha up and running.
http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Lucid_using_Koha_packages
Posting my success to twitter, I got an reply from
@libriotech<gwibber:/user?acct=4ab05274b74611dfbac700248ccb1d87&name=libriotech>
He pointed me to the following:
A Virtual Image of Koha with demo data.
http://kylehall.info/index.php/projects/koha/koha-virtual-appliance/
And a "Koha Distro"
http://mizstik.com/projects/2010/03/koha-live-cd-release-4/ I installed this
into Virtualbox to try it out. The installation process was a breeze.
Nothing more than installing Ubuntu. Great solution. Come the new school
term I will try to implement the system at the school and report back.
Regards
Andre
