When you say Linux server, are you talking Ubuntu Server, Linux without GUI?
The following command will tell you if you have a processor with
hardware virtualisation on built in.

egrep '(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo

If you do have vmx or svm I recommend that you use KVM (Kernel Virtual Machine).
