Thanks for the response!

I have removed "splash VGA=788 quiet splash". I then pressed ctrl x and I got the following

A whole string of commands start running. What I am left with on the screen is as follows:

Begin: Loading essential drivers.....

 Done

 Begin: Mounting root file system.....

 Begin: Running /scripts/local-top...

 Done

Begin: Waiting for root file system...

 Done

Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:

 -Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)

-Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)

-Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)

-Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)

ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/3cf5e4db-78ae-46de-af8a-18aebc95f44 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu7) built-in shell (ash)

Enter 'help' for a list of built in commands.
