You could always use APTonCD, or apt-zip and create an ISO of the update,
and instead of burning to disc just mount the

Lucid has made mounting ISO's a bit easier, right-click the ISO in Nautilus
to mount it.
I can't find how to add USB as a repo source, I wonder if apt-cd will accept
a USB path? It will probably need to exist in your fstab to be a valid local
apt source
