There are some events which might interest everybody, so in order of appearance:

Ubuntu User Day - Saturday 10 July [1]
-------------------------------------------------------
This is an online IRC event which anyone can attend. Good for
beginners and people who don't want to do dev work (yet). An easy
start to the whole worldwide event in the Greater Ubuntu Community.
Has some topics like how to use IRC, command line basics and
Partitioning 101. These kind of events work well if you use Lernid,
because it automatically finds the right channels and you don't need
to know anything about IRC to get going. Lernid will also
automatically load agendas or links as the presenter needs so you
don't need to flick back and forward to a browser. It even
automatically opens a command line window in one of the panels so you
can try out commands too.

Also you can always read the logs later if the time slot doesn't fit
in or if the submarines don't fix the undersea cable in time.

If you are on Lucid all you need to do is:
1. Find Lernid in the Ubuntu Software Center and install it.
2. Open Lernid at the right time, the Lernid icon is in the Internet
section of Applications
3. Choose an event and a nickname
4. watch and learn

Ubuntu Developer Week - 12 to 16 July [3]
------------------------------------------------------------
This one is an action-packed multi day sessions which start at 6pm
(UTC 16:00) with five hour long sessions per evening. So that's after
work in our time-zone. It is focussed on getting into Development
work. It probably isn't feasible to attend all five sessions every
night of the week, but again logs are available afterwards. Using
Lernid makes it a slick experience but if you are an old hand at IRC
you can log into #ubuntu-classroom but don't interrupt the presenter,
chatter and questions happen here, #ubuntu-classroom-chat.

Some detailed instructions on how to hook up to the events are found
on the wiki too.[4] Or a bit more obscure version [5] The Lernid
instructions are out of date for lucid because you don't need to add a
PPA anymore.

CLUG Weekly Talk - 13 July [6]
--------------------------------------------
Real world event at UCT. The topic is still to be announced, so watch
the website and the list.

Upcoming Events :
---------------------------
We want to organise something for Global Jam (27-29 Aug) and for the
Maverick 10.10.10 release party, I'll keep you updated as info becomes
available.

Anybody feel like doing something for Software Freedom day? (18 Sept)
