Yes that is a bit of a round-about Vincent, check out those posts Frans
suggested.
I also have a vodafone 3G and I don't use the vmc software. Prior to Karmic
I followed the Pharscape
<http://pharscape.org/networkmanager-0.7.0-and-3g-wwan-modems.html>instructions
that I outlined here <http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1160081>, but
since Karmic it has built-in support, and just involves creating the
connection in Network Manager (via the pharscape link).
