Hmm, had what sounds like the exact same problem. Only in my case I
got to install Karmic, then (download and) enable the nvidia 17x
driver (because jockey told me it's the recommended version). Upon
reboot I was greeted by this not-so-friendly flickering terminal. I
tried it twice (after fixing my /etc/X11/xorg.conf using the live
disk) with no success. I will try the 190 version tomorrow morning. If
that does not work, bummer.
