Hi David,

have you installed the required packages for dvd support, from
medibuntu.org

look at the packages that are on medibuntu. org -
http://packages.medibuntu.org/intrepid/index.html

You require libdvdcss2, and for others some codecs, eg. w32codecs from
medibuntu.org to run some video files.

you might want to install other packages from medibuntu.org, like
acrobat reader, if it is something that is required, Skype, GoogleEarth,
Realplayer, etc

Just note the legal requirements on the home page http://medibuntu.org/

William

Hi all,

I have a friend im supporting, with a laptop running ubuntu 8.10
desktop,
she complains that when she puts a DVD-movie in her pc it asks her what
program she would like to run the DVD-movie in, and she chooses the
movie
player, the player opens for a second then closes without warning, error
or
input.
i asked her to install vlc and she did this, and it behaves in the same
manner.

does anyone have any idea as to why media players or ubuntu would behave
like this.

thanks
