This is great guys! You've inspired me to get involved with this as
well.
My daughter's primary school had an open day today in which they
presented their plans to add another computer lab. So I approached the
head master to see is we could make this a Tux lab. Both his department
head and he seemed very interested and excited about this proposal.
They've requested a meeting this week to allow me to make a proposal.
The ideas you are talking about will be contained in my proposal. I'll
have a look on the unbuntu-za site to see if there's anything I can use.
Anybody want to join me?
The whole idea of Linux being a community-model vs. Windows which is a
business-model seems to interest them. And of course being able to use
discarded pc's rather than buying new one's would interest any school
with a budget. I might even show them SchoolTool.
I plan to do exactly to do what you are proposing below. Help them get
started and train the teachers so they can become self sufficient and
staying involved, but NOT to run the show.
Having browsed the Unbuntu and Edubuntu sites and seeing all the
activity around this, you can feell the school-"buzz". I love this
community and I'm proud to be part of it!!
