Good to know I won't get called a nitwit!

Anyhow, I figured out how to download a bunch of .deb packages from
the PPA. I will try to install them tonight when I get home. The good
news is that it's a clean, fresh Ubuntu install. At worst I can just
reinstall :)

Thank you for the link, I understand the packages a bit better now and
your method is infinitely easier (and neater) than my hack.
