Virtualbox (and any other VM's) works great is you don't plan to play 
games that require 3D support. Get the Virtualbox .deb from their 
website if you need USB support. VMWare Server is also free and a lot 
easier to configure and set up if you never used VM's before IMHO. There 
is a lot of documentation online for both as well as #vbox and #vmware 
on freenode.
