Not a solution, just a comment back...
Firefox is actually not that well integrated into Gnome. If I remember
correctly, Ubuntu now uses the official builds from Mozilla without
modification, which lets them use the official logo and name - the
alternative being IceWeasel...
Epiphany (package: epiphany-browser) is actually the official Gnome
browser, which should work better with features like this. (That's the
theory, anyway...)
Epiphany is based on the Gecko engine from Mozilla (although I hear
rumours of it switching to webkit which is faster and less
memory-hungry). Although they share common code, Epiphany is not
compatible with Firefox plugins, which is probably its biggest
disadvantage.
