thanks i tried both & this is what i got.

root at ubuntu:~# update-rc.d ntpdate remove
update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/ntpdate exists during rc.d purge (use -f to force)
root at ubuntu:~#

but i think chmod -x /etc/init.d/ntpdate worked because i got a normal
responce

root at ubuntu:~# chmod -x /etc/init.d/ntpdate
root at ubuntu:~#
