Hi Rob,

You should install a C compiler on your system.

The easiest way to do this is probably by installing the
"build-essential" package, either with synaptic, or from the commandline
by issuing a command like "sudo apt-get install build-essential"

Please, also, start new threads on mailing lists by creating a new
message, rather than replying to an old one. Good mail clients (like
Evolution, which I see you are using) can organise messages by thread
(you need to enable it in evolution by View -> Group by threads), and
having things which are not logically grouped together in the same
thread can be confusing.
