A lot of long time members have ops in the channel, to see the access list:

I'm happy with your list and there are certainly others in the channel
who meet your criteria, but this is a major responsibility and you
need to need to know or be willing to learn about being an op and
handling trolls to take on the responsibility so we shouldn't add
people unless they're willing to commit. If anyone on this list or
otherwise is interested please speak up (either here, or drop me a
line on IRC).
